Editor's note: This story has been corrected to reflect that Koch has been with the city of Monroe for 52 years, but his tenure on the city council was shorter.

MONROE - After 52 years with the city of Monroe, one dedicated alderman has decided to take his leave.

Council member Charles Koch announced his intention not to seek re-election during a council proceeding Tuesday.

"Through all the years ... I have enjoyed it all," Koch said. "I just feel that it's time I step back."

Koch said he intends to serve out the remainder of his terms on committees, including the Board of Police and Fire Commissioners. His current two-year term ends April 17.

The first day candidates could begin circulating nomination papers was Dec. 1. Once filled with the proper signatures, the papers will need to be filed with City Clerk Carol Stamm by 5 p.m. Jan. 2. The mayoral position, as well as the seats of incumbents Michael Boyce, Tom Miller, Rob Schilt and Richard Thoman, will be decided in the April 3 election.
