BLANCHARDVILLE — A member of the Darlington Police Department was active in his usual duties July 28, this time tracking down a man with more than four warrants in his name at the state and county level.
Darlington K-9 Kilo was instrumental in apprehending Tyler Jonathon Meyer, 33, Blanchardville, after the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office called him in to assist. Kilo has been with the department since 2010 and helps on a variety of cases, Chief Jason King said.
“It’s not uncommon for us to get asked for help,” King said.
Kilo works with Darlington Officer Ben Conway to make regular patrols and conduct local searches for drugs, but King said the agency “gets called quite a bit” with requests for Kilo to provide his expertise.
Some requests are ahead of an event, like searching buildings, but others are searches like a hunt for a wanted man or locating missing people with dementia.
The search Saturday for Meyer was in rural Blanchardville where he had disappeared into a swampy area.
Sheriff Reg Gill said Meyer was initially being pursued for an act of domestic violence, but that he also had three warrants for his arrest from Dane County and one from Lafayette County. Meyer appeared in Lafayette County Circuit Court where a cash bond of $5,000 was set for him Monday. He is charged with a Class E felony count of burglary of a dwelling, a Class H felony count of bail jumping and two misdemeanor charges.
