MONROE - The Green County Ad Hoc Justice Center Property Committee voted Tuesday to spend about $23,000 to install a drainage pipe near the nearly-completed Justice Center.
Heavy rains earlier this month caused flooding in the basement at the Green County Sheriff's Department. Part of the reason was because sewer drains were covered while landscaping work was done at the Justice Center. Another reason was because a pipe that allowed water to drain off the roof at the Sheriff's Department was cut during construction at the Justice Center.
The committee voted to hire Degarmo Plumbing of Janesville to install the pipe for $23,435. The pipe will run from the southwest corner of the Sheriff's Department to the east, then north and then northwest to the storm sewer on the north side of the Justice Center.
Green County Clerk Mike Doyle said that despite the unexpected cost, the justice center project still is about $200,000 under budget.
The county will take over possession of the building Monday.
