MADISON (AP) - Gov. Jim Doyle has appointed retired appeals court judge David Deininger, Monroe, to the Government Accountability Board.
Deininger was chairman of the board that enforces ethics, lobbying and campaign laws after it started operating in 2008. But he resigned after Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen issued an opinion that concluded he and other member, James Mohr, were serving unlawfully.
Van Hollen found Deininger and Mohr could not serve because they retired before their terms as judges were over, and the state Constitution forbids a judge from holding another office during their terms.
Deininger, a former Green County Circuit Court judge, needs Senate confirmation.
