JUDA - The Juda school board Wednesday night approved a plan to make up lost days to winter weather.
According to Superintendent Gary Scheuerell, the Juda Teacher Association developed the plan, which calls for a full day of school on Wednesday, March 19. The day was originally scheduled as an early dismissal day at 12:10 p.m.
The district also will add eight minutes onto the school day starting Monday, March 17. Four minutes will be added to the beginning and end of the day, meaning school will start at 7:46 a.m. and end at 3:09 p.m.
Scheuerell said adding minutes was a combined decision of the teachers' union and the school board.
"We wanted to feel like all kids were profiting from this decision," Scheuerell said. "I think it's a better educational thing to do it this way rather than (adding a day) at the end of the year when kids are antsy and some students may not show up to a Saturday school day."
Scheuerell said the morning bus routes will not change. Afternoon bus routes will run about four minutes later.
Scheuerell said any further cancellations or delays will require the district to make up additional time.
The district previously made up a snow day with a full day of school Feb. 22.
In other action, the board accepted the retirement of librarian Carol Hafen, effective at the end of the school year. Hafen has been with the district for 23 years and in education for 25 years.
