MONROE - The songs and stories of music icon John Denver will be featured in "A John Denver Musical Tribute," starring musician, singer and songwriter Ted Vigil at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center.
Vigil recreates the original concert experience in his tribute to John Denver. Though Vigil resembles John Denver both physically and musically, he is not an impersonator. Instead, he strives to create one of the most accurate representations of any artist seen on stage.
Vigil was born in Seattle and raised in the Olympia area. He began singing for audiences at an early age. He started playing in the church folk band at 8, and continued developing his talents as a drummer and singer throughout his high school years. After graduation he began singing and playing drums in Top 40 bands and traveled all over the Northwest.
In 2006, he competed and won the first place national title in Laughlin, Nev.'s "Talent Quest" involving 28 states, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. After his win he began playing his John Denver tribute show, singing his way all over the U.S. He then went on to win Seattle's Komo TV "Celebrity Look-Alike Contest." Ted now performs nationwide for all kinds of venues and events. He has sold out theaters in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Kansas, and has played twice now for John Denver's own "Windstar Foundation" in Aspen, Colo. Last year, he was awarded the Rising Legend Award by the National Traditional Country Music Association. For the past three years, Vigil has also been performing with "Jamie's Rock n Roll Legends," singing in casinos, clubs, street fairs, and festivals.
The performance has been underwritten by corporate underwriter Colony Brands, Inc., and media underwriters Monroe Publishing, LLC, and Big Radio. Additional underwriting for this performance has been provided by AmericInn Lodge and Suites; John Baumann and Katie Doyle-Baumann; Monroe Clinic; Bob and Gaida Vickerman; Bob and Nancy Faith; Freitag Financial Services-Kay Freitag; Jeff and Barb Ingebritsen; Wisconsin Bank and Trust; and Art and Letha Whipple.
