Joe Monroe named regular Superintendent
Joe Monroe

MONROE – The School District of Monroe Board of Education has announced that Joe Monroe has been officially appointed Superintendent of the School District of Monroe. This decision follows an extensive two-month community outreach process designed to gather input and identify the qualities most desired in the district’s next leader.

Over the past several weeks, the Board conducted five community listening sessions that engaged more than 100 stakeholders, including parents, students, staff members, and community residents. Feedback from these sessions helped the Board develop a detailed leadership profile to guide its decision-making. After thoughtful deliberation, consultation with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB), and consideration of multiple options, the Board determined that Joe Monroe best embodies the leadership qualities, experience, and community commitment that align with this vision.

Joe Monroe has been a dedicated employee of the School District of Monroe for more than 27 years, serving in a variety of roles that reflect his deep understanding of the district’s strengths, challenges, and aspirations. During his tenure as Interim Superintendent, Joe has demonstrated exceptional leadership, guiding the district to measurable improvements in academic performance, staff satisfaction, and community trust.

“Joe has shown unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and community,” said Board President Jim Curran. “He has accomplished every goal we set for him as interim superintendent. The same qualities illustrated in the profile are the qualities Joe has shown us for the past 10 months. Joe is committed to this community and the board believes Joe is our guy.”

The Board’s unanimous 9-0 vote on Monday, October 27, reflects its wholehearted support and confidence in Monroe’s leadership and vision for the district’s future.

“I am truly honored to continue serving the School District of Monroe in this role,” said Monroe. “I am acutely aware of the responsibility I have to effectively serve all of our students and families, while also balancing the fiscal challenges that lie ahead. I believe that hard work and honest communication go a long way in this community, and that is exactly what I will continue to do to sustain the positive momentum we’ve created over the last ten months.”

Monroe has agreed to continue working at his current compensation rate for the remainder of the school year and will negotiate a new contract with the Board in the spring of 2026.
