JANESVILLE - A Janesville woman was in custody at the Rock County Jail after stabbing her boyfriend twice in the arm with a knife Sunday night, causing "significant injuries," according to a Janesville Police Department news release.
Dana E. Cairy, 31, and her boyfriend of eight years were intoxicated when their argument turned violent and physical. She armed herself with a knife and stabbed him twice in the arm, according to the release.
Police were called to 354 W. Racine St. at 9:39 p.m. and found the 31-year-old man outside the house where the couple lives with two stab wounds to his arm. Janesville Fire Department paramedics took him to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, where he was treated and released.
Cairy initially refused to leave the house. Officers established a perimeter and mobilized its incident command, communication team and an arrest team equipped with "less than lethal force options" including Tasers and pepperball guns.
Traffic was blocked on Racine Street for a half hour.
Communication was established at 10 p.m. with Cairy, who had taken a shower instead of complying with police demands to exit the house, according to the release.
Fifteen minutes later, she was peacefully taken into custody and did not require any medical treatment.
Officers collected evidence, including an 8-inch-long kitchen knife and blood-stained clothing, according to a police report.
Cairy was arrested on charges of domestic causing injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon and domestic substantial battery while armed, according to the release.
