DODGEVILLE — A 67-year-old Jefferson man died in a snowmobile crash on the Military Ridge State Trail Thursday morning.

Richard Koch was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iowa County coroner, according to an Iowa County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Koch was riding east on the trail between Iowa County BB and Iowa County YZ around 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 18 when he lost control of the snowmobile and was ejected off it. 

Lifesaving efforts were made at the scene by law enforcement and EMS personnel, but were unsuccessful.

Ridgeway Fire and First Response, Dodgeville EMS and UW Med Flight assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

The state Department of Natural Resources is investigating.
