District 16 announces May activity

PECATONICA — Illinois State Police District 16 Commander, Lieutenant Joseph Blanchette, has announced District 16 enforcement figures and activity for the month of May.

Illinois State Police District 16 Troopers issued 985 total citations and 652 written warnings during the month of May. Speed violations accounted for 436 citations. One hundred sixty-one citations were issued for occupant restraint violations and 159 enforcement documents were issued for distracted driving violations. 

Troopers investigated 38 traffic crashes and assisted 86 motorists. One hundred thirty-eight commercial motor vehicle inspections were completed with 8 drivers and/or vehicles being placed out of service. 

Troopers made 17 arrests for driving under the influence and 31 criminal arrests. Twenty-seven enforcement documents were issued for Scott’s Law violations. Two school safety checks were performed by troopers. 

District 16, which encompasses Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Winnebago and Boone Counties, had 6 traffic fatalities in May.


ALCOHOL COUNTERMEASURE ENFORCEMENT PATROLS

PECATONICA — Illinois State Police (ISP) District 16 Commander, Acting Captain Joseph Blanchette, announces the results of Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols in Winnebago and Stephenson during May. These ACE patrols allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs.

There were two driving under the influence citations with 10 other alcohol/drug citations. There were six occupant restraint offenses and only one registration offense with seven driver’s license offenses. There were two insurance violations. 

There was a total of 70 citations with nine arrests and a total of 27 written warnings.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. There is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 53 minutes in the United States. The ACE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous DUI offenders from the road.


DISTRACTED DRIVING ENFORCEMENT RESULTS

PECATONICA — Illinois State Police (ISP) District 16 Commander, Acting Captain Joseph Blanchette, announces the results of Distracted Driving Enforcement Program patrols held in Winnebago and Stephenson during May. This program provided extra patrol coverage for ISP officers to focus on saving lives and reducing serious crashes by enforcing distracted driving laws.

There were 23 handheld phone/device citations and a total of 15 distracted driving citations.

The total of all citations was 87 with a total of 22 for all written warnings.


NIGHTTIME ENFORCEMENT RESULTS

PECATONICA — Illinois State Police (ISP) District 16 Commander, Acting Captain Joseph Blanchette, announces the results of Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) patrols in Winnebago and Stephenson during May. These NITE patrols allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations especially between 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

There were three driving under the influence citations with eight other alcohol/drug citations. There were eight occupant restraint offenses and four registration offenses. There were 15 driver’s license offenses and 14 insurance violations.

There was a total of 121 citations with 15 arrests and 90 written warnings.

Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. Over half of all fatal crashes in Illinois occur at night. The NITE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous impaired drivers from the road and making sure everyone is buckled up.


SPECIAL TRAFFIC RESULTS

PECATONICA — Illinois State Police (ISP) District 16 Commander, Acting Captain Joseph Blanchette, announces the results of Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols (STEP) in Winnebago and Stephenson during May. These STEPs allowed the ISP to provide increased enforcement for impaired driving, occupant restraint, speeding and distracted driving violations during the National “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

There were 71 occupant restraint violations, 158 speeding citations and warnings with 9 distracted driving citations and warnings. Driving under the influence and drug/alcohol-related citations totaled seven.

There was a total of 236 citations with 56 total written warnings issues.
