WARREN — The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public in identifying a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash Aug. 28 outside of Warren, Ill.
The incident occurred on Ill. 78 just northwest of the city limits by Vagle Court. It is believed by authorities to have taken place sometime after 9 p.m. on Aug. 28 or early on Aug. 29.
“Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office at (815) 777-2141 or submit a tip through the Jo Daviess County website. Callers may remain anonymous,” Sheriff Craig A. Ketelsen said in a press release.
Nicole Burke, 37, of South Wayne, was killed in the incident. Deputies responded at about 11 a.m. on Aug. 29 of an unresponsive woman in a ditch, later identified as Burke.
“It is believed that Burke was struck by an unknown vehicle while walking northwest on Illinois Route 78 North,” the release said. “The vehicle that struck Burke then left the scene and did not report the accident.”
The incident remains under investigation.
