MONROE - An Illinois man was sentenced to prison for his part in burglarizing two Monroe businesses in late 2016 and early 2017.

Trejamario Deshad Allen Cook, 25, Oswego, pleaded guilty Jan. 22 in Green County Circuit Court to two Class F felony counts of burglary, stemming from the coordinated burglaries of Radio Shack and Fuzzy's Audio and Video in Monroe.

Green County Judge James Beer sentenced Cook to three years in prison and five years on extended supervision, with conditions that he pay court fines, supervision fees and restitution. Related felony and misdemeanor charges of theft, criminal damage to property and resisting or obstructing an officer were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

Cook was a participant in the burglary of Fuzzy's Audio and Video on Dec. 20, 2016, and Radio Shack on Feb. 14, 2017, as well as a series of similar offenses in neighboring counties and in Illinois, according to court records.

The break-in at Fuzzy's, 141 West 7th Street, happened in the early morning hours. Cook and two accomplices shattered the front door, setting off an alarm, and spent all of 40 seconds inside the store before leaving empty-handed. All three were wearing gloves and two were wearing face masks.

DNA from a face mask found at the scene later matched to Robby Lamont Patton, 28, Sugar Grove, Illinois, and in July, Cook identified himself and Patton as participants in the burglary. The third burglar was reportedly a 15-year-old. An arrest warrant is issued for Patton. As of August, he was incarcerated elsewhere.

Cook returned to Monroe two months later with more accomplices for the Radio Shack burglary, again in the early morning hours. Eight people in two vehicles pulled off the burglary, with five breaking in and the other three waiting in getaway vehicles.

Surveillance video shows that five people in dark clothing and masks shattered the front door, broke into a locked storage room and loaded 80 cellphones into a duffle bag.

The heist was completed in 73 seconds.

Police responded to the area minutes later when a citizen reported seeing a burglary in progress. The drivers of a maroon 2016 Kia Optima and a gray 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, both with Illinois plates, drove off from the Radio Shack and led police on a chase down Wisconsin 11/81 at speeds topping 100 mph.

Police used "stop sticks" to apprehend the Kia in the Town of Spring Grove and the Jeep in Rock County. The passengers of the Kia, including Cook, fled on foot into nearby farm fields and eluded officers.

Police recovered 68 phones in the Kia that matched the description of the phones stolen from Radio Shack, as well as 12 others along the side of the highway. Police believe these were thrown from the Jeep.
