DARLINGTON - A head-on collision between a semi-trailer and a pickup truck in Lafayette County just before 11 a.m. Tuesday resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries.

Austin T. Sellhause, 25, Lanark, Illinois, was driving east in the 1800 block of Tibbits Road in Willow Springs Township when he crossed the centerline at the crest of a hill with his 2013 Ford F150 truck, according to a press release from the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.

Steven H. Jones, 64, Rewey, attempted to avoid hitting Sellhause in his 1997 Peterbilt semi with attached grain trailer, but the two vehicles smashed into one another.

Sellhause was reportedly trapped in the truck. He was taken to UW Hospital via Med Flight and died there later as a result of his injuries. Passenger Kyle J. Mulcahy, 25, Darlington, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Upland Hills Hospital in Dodgeville. Jones was also taken to that hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mineral Point Fire and EMS, Belmont EMS and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene. The Iowa County Sheriff's Office relayed the information to Lafayette County after receiving the initial 911 call.

The incident was the fourth fatal motor vehicle crash in the county in 2017. The incident remains under investigation.
