BROWNTOWN - Late Saturday afternoon, Paulette Williams returned home to Browntown from work and noticed smoke coming from the dwelling.
She quickly called 9-1-1 and then her daughter, Ashley, who was in Gratiot.
"She called me and said, "I think my house is on fire,'" Ashley Williams said.
Firefighters from Browntown, South Wayne and Monroe responded to the home on Dale Street. Ashley Williams said she thought the fire started in the attic and was unsure how the lower levels of the house had fared. According to a close family friend, the home was deemed a complete loss. Browntown Fire Department was unavailable for comment Sunday.
