MONROE - Jennifer Disch didn't have much time to celebrate her daughter Brittany's grand championship Tuesday at the Green County Fair 4-H Horse Show.

She had to get ready for her own competition.

Brittany, 9; Jennifer, 34; and Jennifer's mom, Barb Brunner, 66, represent three generations of horse show competitors, all from Monroe.

Brittany, of the Washington Center 4-H Club, has shown horses since she was 4.

Jennifer showed them as a youth, but stopped when she was a senior in high school after a dairy barn burned down and her dad, Ralph, needed more help on the farm. She started showing horses again in 2003.

Barb also showed horses when she was younger, but eventually stopped. She started again in 2002 after she and Ralph sold their dairy cows.

"I was really glad when Jennifer started again, and when Brittany started, it became a family thing," Brunner said. "We spend a lot of weekends doing it together."

Brittany took home the most hardware Tuesday, winning her Best Fitted Showmanship Class, and then taking the grand championship for her age group with her horse, Be Real Sassy, age 5.

"I was real nervous, and I didn't expect to even win my class," Brittany said.

Jennifer also finished a champion, winning the Ma and Pa Class.

Brunner didn't compete Tuesday.

"I'm not showing today because I have a bad wheel," Brunner said. "I am the official driver today."

Brittany just returned from a world show in Texas, and in another week she's going to a horse show in Jefferson. Mom and grandma probably will come along, either to compete, be a driver or just be a fan.

"We sometimes are at shows most weekends from as early as February to as late at Thanksgiving weekend," Brunner said.

Jennifer saw how much fun her mom and dad had showing animals and wanted to join the fun as a young girl.

"I tagged around to all the shows before I could show animals," Jennifer said. "When we sold the cows, I still had a love to want to do it, so I got back into it."

And when Brittany joined, Jennifer was a happy mom.

"Brittany had the love to do it, too," Jennifer said. "I figured I might as well take her to shows and get involved myself.

"Mother/daughter combinations are common," Jennifer continued. "But three generations are rare."
