Your Home Show Guide

The Thursday, Feb. 7, edition of The Monroe Times will include a special section with a preview of the Home Show that includes a list and map of vendors.

MONROE - Expect to see a lot more builders and home remodeling specialists at the annual Home Show in Monroe this year.

The show, which originally started about 30 years ago, has transformed itself in a number of ways this year. The show will be Saturday, Feb. 9, and Sunday, Feb. 10, at Ludlow Mansion.

The first thing visitors will notice is a "lot more builders and remodelers," said event organizer Dan Henke. There also will be booths from local electrical, plumbing and heating and air conditioning contractors so people can get all their questions about building and remodeling answered at one time.

The list of exhibitors also includes Realtors, lumber and building supplies, concrete companies, flooring and landscapers.

The financial aspect of home improvement also will be represented. "There'll be title companies and lenders to take you all the way through the process," Henke said.

All vendors at the show will be local businesses.

This year's Home Show is being sponsored by the Southwest Wisconsin Home Builders Association. The group was charted in October, the first new chapter in the state in the past 10 years. Already, the group has more than 50 members, representing Green, Lafayette and Iowa counties, Henke said.

The date of the Home Show also has been moved up. The event had been held at the Stateline Ice and Community Expo, but that facility has not been available until after the hockey season ends in March.

"That's too late for builders," Henke said. "They're digging and pouring by then." People in the building trades want to talk with customers while they are still in their slower time of year so they and customers can meet and make plans for spring and summer projects, he explained.

Monroe building inspector Dave Powers and Mayor Ron Marsh also will be available to speak with visitors from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Show hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. Booths will be located in the banquet room, dining room and bar area of the Ludlow Mansion. Refreshments from Peppercorn Banquets will available.

Admission is free, but the builders group is asking for a donation of a non-perishable food item to help restock the Green County Inter-Church Food Pantry.

A free will offering also will be taken, with money going to scholarships for students going into construction trades.

The event promises to help homeowners navigate their way through a home project.

"Bring your plans. You can get a quote and get started," Henke said.
