MONROE - The Friends In Faith Ministry of the Monroe United Methodist Church will be hosting a presentation by local historian, Matt Figi, at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 in the church's Fellowship Hall, 2227 4th St.

Figi, a member of the Green County Historical Society and a researcher, will speak on the history of the former Universalist Church, which now houses the Green County Historical Museum, along with an overview of the restoration project currently underway on its stained glass windows.

Figi's presentation will chronicle events from the pre-Civil War era to the present window preservation efforts. Since its groundbreaking in 1860, the structure has played many roles in the growth of the community. As one of the longest standing buildings in the area, it pre-dates the Green County Courthouse and contains some of the oldest existing stained glass windows in the state.

The free program is open to the public. A donation will be collected to benefit the Green County Historical Society's Stained Glass Window Restoration Fund.
