ALBANY - The Albany Historical Society is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at the museum, 117 and 119 N. Water St.
The museum started in 1992 and has 125 members, 35 of them local. The mission of the museum is "Saving Albany's Past for the Future."
The first building, 117 N. Water St., was rented until 1995, when the building was given to the group. When the collections outgrew the first building, the adjoining building was purchased through donations.
The museum's collections include: military items from Civil War to Dessert Storm; items from Roy Bowman's barber shop and Maxine Stewart-Kjorness's beauty shop; the soda fountain from Dehmer's Drug Store; items from Livingston's Millinery Shop; items from the Sugar River freshwater pearls era; actor John Lidel's movie history; advertising items from many different Albany businesses; agricultural items; household items; and photos of early Albany.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
