Heidenreich pleads guilty

GALENA — The wife of the man found dead on the Mississippi River near Savanna, Ill., was sentenced to five years in prison and one-year mandatory supervised release in Jo Daviess County Circuit Court Thursday.

Danielle K. Heidenreich, 39, Savanna, pleaded guilty to concealment of a homicidal death. A charge of obstructing justice was dismissed.

Levi T.J. Meyers, 35, Hanover, Ill., waived his preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, aggravated battery and concealment of homicidal death April 21.

A status hearing will be held June 24. Meyers faces 20 to 60 years in prison if convicted of the five-part murder charge. 

The body of Keith Heidenreich, 48, Savanna, was found in the Mississippi River at Miller’s Landing in rural Savanna March 10, the day he died, according to an online obituary from Schwarz Funeral Homes in Freeport.

According to the criminal complaint and a Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office news release, Keith Heidenreich was beaten to death in Meyers’ and Danielle Heidenreich’s house in Hanover. The body was then driven to Miller’s Landing and dumped in the Mississippi River. 

The death was investigated by the Carroll County sheriff, Hanover police and the Northwest Illinois Critical Incident Response Team.

Assisting agencies include the Jo Daviess and Carroll county State’s Attorney’s offices, Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Galena, Stockton, and Savanna police, Illinois State Police and its Crime Scene Investigations, and the Carroll and Winnebago county coroner’s offices.
