Head-on crash leads to life-threatening injuries

TOWN OF NEWARK — A 41-year-old woman is fighting for her life following a crash in western Rock County this past weekend.

On Sunday, March 22, at approximately 10:18 a.m., the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Beloit Police Department, Green County Sheriff’s Office, Brodhead Police Department, Orfordville Fire Department, Footville Fire Department, Town of Beloit Fire Department, and Brodhead Fire Department all responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash with multiple injuries near 11703 W County K in the Town of Newark. 

“The investigation revealed a Chevrolet Colorado operated by a 57-year-old male from Rockton, IL, was traveling westbound on W County K. The Colorado crossed the centerline entering into the eastbound lane of traffic. A GMC Sierra, operated by a 41-year-old male from Rockford, IL, was traveling eastbound on W County K. The vehicles collided head on in the eastbound lane of traffic,” Sergeant Mike Schauer of the Rock County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

A 41-year-old women in the GMC and the 57-year-old driver of the Colorado were both extricated from the vehicles by fire department personnel. 

“The 41-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries from the crash,” Schauer said. “All other occupants involved in the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals where they were treated and released.”

This case remains open and further updates will be released when available, Schauer added.
