MONROE — Potential future growth at Monroe Truck Equipment led the Monroe Common Council to schedule a public hearing on Aug. 5 regarding possible zoning changes at that site.
The land, owned by MTE Properties, is currently zoned for light industrial uses, which allows for three accessory buildings for the main facility. Assistant City Administrator Sam Liebert said the council has been made aware of potential future development for up to six accessory buildings at the site.
This would require the zoning classification for the property to be changed to “planned development.”
The public hearing would include more information on future development plans for the site and possibly clear the way for a decision by the council to make the zoning change.
Tom Ninneman, the President and CEO of Monroe Truck, said the zoning request of the city was “relatively simple” and would allow for expansion and continued growth at the business. Ninneman has been the CEO and President of Monroe Truck since February.
In other action, the council:
● Moved forward with a change in the assistant administrator/director of administrative services position, now with a title of “director of community development.”
Liebert is currently the assistant administrator, but is leaving his position at the end of July. The council approved making a change to the title and duties of the position to make it related more to economic development.
The director of community development will help develop new business in Monroe, work to retain businesses and employees and help encourage new housing development. Liebert called the position a “cheerleader” for economic growth. The application for the position is currently listed on the city’s website.
● Approved a memorandum of understanding with the Monroe Professional Police Association and the Wisconsin Professional Police Association to establish a school resource officer in Monroe public schools.
The proposal to have an SRO has been in the works for some time and is looked at as a way to proactively introduce police presence throughout the school district. The next step will be having the union representing the police officers approve the memorandum, Liebert said.
