MONROE - The Green County Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association will be conducting their annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon May 7. The sale will be in the auditorium of the Government Services Building, Pleasant View Complex, N3150 Wisconsin 81, Monroe.
Area residents will be able to purchase hardy Zone 4 perennials, herbs and annual plants that have been grown locally by UW-Extension Master Gardener volunteers. Started vegetable plants, houseplants and unique plants will be available as well as several handcrafted garden use items.
The Green County Master Gardeners Association uses the proceeds from this plant sale to distribute scholarships to Green County area youth who are enrolled or planning to enroll in secondary education in a horticulture-related field of study. Funds also are used for other Master Gardener educational events.
UW-Extension Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to help with selecting plants to fit gardening needs. Master Gardener volunteers are trained by UW-Extension specialists to assist the public with garden and horticulture-related questions and also provide thousands of volunteer hours to community projects in Green County each year.
There currently are more than 30 Master Gardener volunteers available to help answer gardening, turf, shrub, fruits, prairie and other horticulture questions through the UW-Extension office in Green County. To contact them or to get more information on the UW-Extension Master Gardener Program from Mark Mayer, UW-Extension agriculture agent for Green County, call 608-328-9440.
