ONROE - The Green County Leaders Project Team is holding a public "Join Us for Coffee" meeting from 7 to 9 a.m. Jan. 31 at the Monroe United Methodist Church, 2227 4th Street.
The Leaders Project Team has been working on establishing a drop-in social center for both public and home-schooled middle school students.
While there are many options for younger and older kids, there are fewer options for this age group. Preliminary work has been done: The team now is asking for the community's help in taking the next steps.
They polled the middle school youth, who are very interested in having a place of their own to "hang out" downtown after school. They want and need a setting for safe, fun socializing.
The team is asking for residents' expertise and thoughts on potential partners, locations, program guidelines, staffing and budget to bring this idea to reality.
Attendees may come when they can and leave when they need to.
