MONROE - Want to learn more about growing your own food? Want to learn to preserve what you grow and prepare it for healthier eating? The Green County Master Gardeners are offering a tour of God's Green Acres, W5841 Old Argyle Rd, Monroe, at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24.

Jane Skelton will be the guide for "Spiritual and Emotional Gardening" to take attendees on a tour of a garden that is in its fifth year of growth. Examples of a variety of growing techniques are available, including deep mulch with wood chips and hay and square foot-gardening. There will be shitake mushrooms growing on logs with a composting station near by. A hoop house will be viewed which extends the growing season as the weather turns colder. This tour will also feature a fruit orchard and vineyard for review.

The Green County Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association was formed in Green County in 2004 to provide Master Gardeners with opportunities for professional development and community service. Master Gardener volunteers help to provide beauty and growth in communities for flower, plant, and vegetative areas.

GCMGA President Marilyn Sandin-Ross invites anyone interested to participate in the opportunities offered by the Green County Master Gardeners Program. The Green County Master Gardeners Association meets on the fourth Thursday of the month from February through October. Anyone interested in horticulture and gardening is welcome to join the association and you do not have to be a Master Gardener to be a member or to attend. For more information on the UW-Extension Master Gardener program contact Mark Mayer, agriculture agent, at 608-328-9440.
