MONROE - An inmate in the Green County Jail was found dead in his cell bed early Wednesday, Jan. 30, according to Sheriff Jeff Skatrud.

Kyle S. Peotter, 17, was unresponsive and not breathing when jail deputies found him at about 5:56 a.m., Skatrud said. Medics and First Response personnel were unable to revive him, and coroner Kris Hasse pronounced him dead at the jail. A final report on Peotter's cause of death is pending the results of toxicology tests, which could take several weeks.

"Initial indications are that Peotter died as a result of a medical condition," Skatrud said.

Peotter had been an inmate in the jail since Sept. 27 and was being held on a probation hold issued by the Department of Corrections. Formerly of Monroe, his last known address was in Freeport. He was scheduled to be sentenced in March on a vehicle theft charge.

Monroe police are conducting an independent investigation of the death.
