This is a photo taken in 1972 of the gas station owned by the Rufenacht family from the early 1920s until it was sold to Kwik Trip in the early 1990s. It served as a Sinclair station until December 1972 when it carried the Shell banner. Remodeling of the station shown began in September 1972 with the installation of its first self-service pump. The station had an adequate supply of fuel with a 30,000-gallon storage area. After the remodeling, the station was open seven days a week for 18 hours a day. They employed eleven people including drivers for their three trucks. When Kwik Trip closed last week to move to their new location, this ended the streak of having a gas station in this area for more than 90 years. The Green County Historical Society museum is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. through October.
