MONROE - The Green County Fair offers something for everyone this year.
The fair kicks off Wednesday, July 22, and concludes Sunday, July 26.
Since the first county fair in 1853, people have traveled to Monroe to celebrate the county's agricultural heritage.
The fair becomes a place for people to gather and talk to their neighbors. The 4-H club members who return to the fair year after year get a chance to talk to members of other clubs and exchange stories and ideas to grow champion animals.
Kids of all ages are able to try their luck at carnival games and test their intestinal fortitude on the rides along the midway.
This year there will be rides for everyone. Mr. Ed's Magical Midway offers rides for children, families and thrill rides for those who are a little more brave.
Unlimited rides for $15 per person are offered from 5 p.m. to closing time Wednesday and Thursday; a two-for-one deal is offered Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m.; 10 rides for $10 are offered from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday; unlimited rides for $15 from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday; and four wristbands for $45 on Sunday.
All of the rides have height and weight requirements.
There aren't any wristband specials after 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Also new this year is a magic show. Bob Bohm's Family Oriented Magic Show will be featured three or four times a day. The audience is encouraged to take part in the shows. When not on stage, Bohm walks around the grounds and performs magic tricks.
Also new this year is the celebrity pedal pull on Saturday. Local celebrities, including Monroe Times Editor Jeff Rogers, will take part in the pull.
