On Sept. 8, the Green County Board:
Adopted an ordinance that clarifies which county sheriff's department employees can drive a county-owned vehicle to and from work. The wording allowing detectives, the chief deputy and canine handlers was removed, but the verbiage covering for the "sheriff and on-call law enforcement staff members as determined by the sheriff" was retained. Sheriff Mark Rohloff said the wording change better reflects current practice in his department and is more flexible should there be a rank change.
Approved a resolution specifying that Green County "prohibits the use of excessive force by law enforcement individuals engaged in non-violent civil rights protests." Rohloff said the sheriff's office already has this policy in place, but the formal resolution is needed to allow the county to be eligible to apply for Community Development Block Grants.
Voted to allow the Solid Waste Management Board to purchase a 2016 Wilkens Transfer Trailer for $85,000. The walking-floor trailer moves trash along and compacts it, and will be used to haul garbage to the landfill in Janesville. It will replace a 15-year-old unit, one of two such trailers at the county transfer station.
