Offices held: >None

Volunteer positions: >President of the Green County Historical Society; has served on three Main Street committees: Economic Restructuring, Design and Promotion

1. Why are you running? >

I would like to see a more open administrative process for making government decisions. I want to allow the public an opportunity to provide more input earlier in the process. I want to foster/further the county's relationship with the city.

I would also like to study decreasing the number of county supervisors. I want the Justice Center to be built using green technology to save us money if it makes economic sense. If they renovate the Green County Courthouse, they should do a historic structure report before doing it.

2. What is the most pressing issue facing the county and what are your plans to address it? >

I don't know if I can say what the most pressing issue is without being more involved and knowledgeable. The budget is always one issue of concern.

3. Why should people vote for you over your opponent? >

I would press to make government a really straightforward open administrative process.

4. What is your stance on residential and commercial/industrial development? >

I'm generally a little leery of overdevelopment of residential development when it uses up farmland.

Commercial development should be done whenever needed, but I would prefer infill development. I would have liked to see Wal-Mart build on an existing site.

5. What is your particular area of expertise or interest in county government? >

Having been an employee of the federal government for 30-plus years, I'm pretty knowledgeable on human resources issues. My expertise is in energy matters.

GENE CURRAN>

Age: >52

Occupation: >Vice president, Swiss Colony

Lived in district: >18 years

Offices held: >County supervisor, four years. Has served on Land Records, Property, Personnel, Labor and Judicial committees.

Volunteer positions: >Foundation Board at YMCA, past president of YMCA, Monroe Country Club.

1. Why are you running? >

Several reasons. I would like to finish what I started, also, this is an important time for the county. Going forward, dealing with the finances of a 2 percent cap with the increasing costs of operating the county will be important.

I also want to try an enhance cooperation between the county and the city.

2. What is the most pressing issue facing the county and what are your plans to address it? >

The most pressing issue going forward is the combination of the 2 percent cap and our annual increase in wages and operating expenses and trying to marry the two together. What we really need to do is work on a long-range plan for the whole county.

3. Why should people vote for you over your opponent? >

If they think I have been doing a good job, I would appreciate their vote.

4. What is your stance on residential and commercial/industrial development?>

We need it, but at the same time, we need to make sure we're doing planning in an educational and thoughtful manner. Community development is needed to pay for the infrastructure of growing residential development.

5. What is your particular area of expertise or interest in county government? >

I'm organized and I'm used to dealing with and working with all kinds of people from a leadership standpoint. I want to work with people to accomplish the greater good, and working with different types of people, I like that. That's why I'm involved. I think it's the duty of everyone to donate their time.
