Starting today, the Times will present profiles of the candidates in the contested races. Today's profiles are on candidates in contested races in Districts 4, 6, 11 and 16.

The race in District 16 is between incumbent Jeff Thomm and Sherri Fiduccia. The district consists of Monroe township.

1. Why are you running? >

We've accomplished a lot but there's more to be done. I've owned my own business for 28 years and I've lived here all of my life. As a businessman I realize you have to spend money sometimes but you try to keep it under control.

2. What is the most pressing issue facing the county? What would you do to solve it? >

The budget. We're going to have some shortfalls because of the weather. Future (road) maintenance and fuel costs.

We're just starting to get a handle on it right now. We might have to make some flexible hours to save money.

3. Why should people vote for you? >

I'm trying to do a good job and I think I've done a good job. I have experience.

4. What is your view of commercial/residential development? > It's a good thing to have as long as you control it.

5. What is your particular area of expertise or interest that you can bring to county government? > I've been in the area all of my life. I still do farm-related work. The bottom line is that if farmers aren't doing well others aren't either.

The Justice Center. I just feel we don't need it. Courthouse on the Square is just fine.

3. Why should people vote for you? >

I think I can do a good job. I can't wave a magic wand but I can try to make things better.

I see a lot of people. I'm in the public every day.
