MONROE — Broadband access is a key economic and social driver and the county is seeking the public’s help to study the issue and what it would take to expand to more people.
They are invited to the county’s web site to take “speed test” that measures the quality of their Internet connection in a specific location. The site went live on Jan. 1.
The link to perform the speed test can be found at www.greencountywi.org/397/Broadband-Resources.
Spearheading the project is Ryan Camron, director of information technology, for Green County and Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee. Last year the county board created the committee to draft a county broadband guidance policy to help Green County officials work to expand and partner to expand broadband access.
“The Committee quickly realized we lacked sufficient data to understand the gaps in broadband across the county,” he said. “As a result, we partnered with MADREP to implement a speed test.”
The results will be compiled and analyzed and ultimately used to guide public policy that expands broadband access in areas that have seen little or no service over the years.
