MONROE — Green County’s government services experienced “an incident” of unknown origin this week. In fact, as of press time it was unknown when systems like the phone and internet servers would be back online.

“At approximately 5:41 yesterday, Tuesday, Feb. 4, the county network and internet connection went offline,” Green County Clerk and Administrative Coordinator Arianna Voegeli said at a press conference Wednesday, Feb. 5. “Our IT department spent the day yesterday troubleshooting and looking into the issues. It was determined that a network incident has occurred that is preventing access to the internet and networks for several Green County departments.”

Ultimately, she said, they were unable to identify what went wrong and are working with IT Support to resolve the situation.

“At this time, we do not have any ETA for resolution. It is anticipated that this situation will likely last days,” Voegeli said.

Voegeli wouldn’t speculate on the possible cause.

County employees that can work remote were encouraged to do so. Those that aren’t were back in offices inventorying critical systems that are affected and prioritizing the order in which systems should be brought back online.

Several county departments are affected with no access to phones or the internet. There are a few departments in the Justice Center that still have access, as well as the Green County Sheriff’s Office. Any systems that a city or village may share with the county would also be impacted.

“If you are trying to call or email, staff is trying the best they can to receive that communication and contact you back,” Voegeli said.
