TOWN OF GRATIOT — A 60-year-old Kansas woman died Saturday after a UTV rollover crash Friday night.
Lisa A. McCaughey died at UW Hospital in Madison, where she had been taken by UW Med Flight helicopter after the crash on private property on Wis. 11 near Patch Road Friday before 9 p.m.
According to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, McCaughey was a passenger in a UTV driven by Ronald F. Ray, 57, Gratiot.
The Sheriff’s Office said McCaughey, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a severe head injury in the crash.
Ray was taken by ambulance to SSM Health Monroe Hospital.
Two others in the vehicle, Darci L. Hartman, 61, Milledgeville, Ill., and Jon M. LeBar, 61, Leavenworth, Kansas, reported only minor injuries and were not transported.
The Sheriff’s Office said alcohol and careless operation appear to have contributed to the crash.
Green County EMS, Lafayette County EMS, Gratiot Fire and First Response and the state Department of Natural Resources assisted the Sheriff’s Office.
The DNR is investigating with the assistance of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.. The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is being forwarded to the Lafayette County District Attorney’s office for evaluation of possible charges.
