MONROE - In this day and age of music made famous by movies and country crossover artists, The Front Porch Boys take pride in entertaining audiences with the real thing - genuine, traditional Bluegrass music.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, this Wisconsin-based group takes to the Monroe Arts Center's Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall's stage at 7:30 p.m. for an evening full of tight harmonies, fast and swinging picking, and a southbound train rhythm that will take you to the heart and soul of Bluegrass.
This multi-talented group of four musicians was formed in 2001 by guitarist Clark Speck, whose musicianship and distinctive vocals lend a Bluegrass authenticity to the group's overall sound. Banjoist Tom Nowlin, who began playing at age 13, always keeps the music moving at full speed. Jim Price has been playing professionally since the 1970s. The Front Porch Boys coaxed him out of musical retirement a couple years ago, and he promptly joined the group as their mandolin player, along with providing harmony vocals. Rounding out the foursome is the newest member of the group, Greg Spencer, whose improvisational talent and energy shines through on the upright bass.
The Front Porch Boys create and stay true to the traditional, acoustic sound typically heard in Bluegrass music - a sound that takes a person back to a special place in time.
Reserved seat tickets for The Front Porch Boys are $25 and $20 and may be purchased by calling the Monroe Arts Center box office at (608) 325-5700. Additional information for this event and other Monroe Arts Center events can be found online at www.monroeartscenter.com.
