MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center opens the 2016-2017 Sunday Concert Series at 2 p.m. Sunday with a concert by The Goldberg Trio.
The string trio features the breathtakingly beautiful sounds of the violin, viola and cello. The concert, which highlights pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven, takes place at MAC's Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall, 1315 11th St., Monroe.
Hailing from Madison, The Goldberg Trio combines the talents of three award-winning, internationally renowned musicians: Kangwon Lee Kim (violin), Micah Behr (viola) and Mark Bridges (cello). With each performance, they fuse a wealth of experience, energy and passion.
Kim is a versatile violinist with a repertoire ranging from baroque to 21st century using both baroque and modern violins. She has given concerts throughout the U.S. and in Korea, Canada, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Norway and Czech Republic. She has performed with the Smithsonian Chamber Players and Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra and has collaborated with world-renowned musicians including Menahem Pressler and Laurence Lesser.
Behr has performed viola at the Boston Early Music Festival, the Britten-Pears Young Artist program in Germany and the Lucerne Festival Academy in Switzerland and was a staff accompanist for the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. He maintains a string and piano studio in Madison, where he also performs with the Madison Symphony and Madison Bach Musicians and serves as the artist-in-residence for Geneva Campus Church.
Performances by Bridges have been with members of the Borodin and Muir and Pro Arte String Quartets, and he attended the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar and the Banff Centre Chamber Music Residency. He has performed on the CBC and WPR on "Sunday Afternoon Live from the Chazen," and "The Midday." He is a core member of the Willy Street Chamber Players. In addition, he is a section cellist with the Dubuque Symphony and plays frequently with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra.
