MONROE - Construction work on the Monroe Square could start soon.

Tom Purdy, representing Fehr-Graham and Associates, told the Monroe City Council on Tuesday that the city's application for funding the Square reconstruction project has been approved by all required state agencies. The only item remaining is for the State Board of Commissioners of Public Lands to finalize the State Trust Fund loan at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Purdy will inform Monroe Mayor Ron Marsh of the confirmation, and the mayor will be able to sign the contract with E & N Hughes immediately. Purdy said Hughes intends to start on the project within a day of the contract being signed.
