Gill wins sheriff's primary

DARLINGTON - Reg Gill, 49, Cuba City, had a big lead early in the Republican primary for Lafayette County Sheriff which carried him through to the end of the night.

Gill, who has worked as a Lafayette County Sheriff's Department deputy for 15 years, won the primary hands-down with 2,858 votes, or 88 percent, of the 3,253 votes cast. Darlington Police Chief Jason King received 395 votes for 12 percent of the vote.

The City of Darlington cast 498 votes his way, and 162 for King.

Gill will face Ralph J. Brown of Shullsburg Township, running as a registered Democrat write-in candidate, on the November ballot.

The current sheriff, Scott Pedley, is not seeking re-election.
