MONROE - Darlington resident Jenna Gill defeated incumbent Kate Findley for the position of Lafayette County District Attorney Tuesday.

Gill had received 4,832 votes from county residents with all precincts reporting.

Findley, meanwhile, had 2,532 votes.

Gill said she was surprised by the result.

"I thought that it would be closer," Gill said. "I'm obviously pleased voters got out and believed in me."

Gill said she thought her victory was, in part, thanks to the fact that she is a lifelong Darlington resident.

"People know who I am and what they can expect from me," Gill said.

Findley said she was not surprised by the results.

"The majority of voters clearly believe that experience is not as important as being born in this community," Findley said. "For the county's sake, I hope they are right."
