Get rid of unwanted meds today, every day

MONROE - Citizens with unwanted medications are urged to dispose of them this weekend on "Drug Take Back Day."

Green County Sheriff Mark Rohloff said today has been designated Drug Take Back Day as a reminder that prescription medication drop-off sites are available year-round at law enforcement agencies across Wisconsin.

"We're looking for the kind of stuff people have in their medicine cabinets but don't need," Rohloff said. "We don't want people flushing their medications or throwing them out."

Medication drop-offs are intended to prevent abuse of prescription drugs, Rohloff said.

Rohloff added that pills can be dropped off anonymously, but items such as syringes must be taken to hospitals.

"Most people don't drop off their illegal drugs, but we'll take those, too," Rohloff said.

Medication can be anonymously deposited in boxes at the Green County Sheriff's Department, the police departments of Monroe, Monticello, Albany, Brodhead and Belleville, and at the New Glarus Village Hall.
