MONROE - The Green County Humane Society is kicking off a "Buy A Brick" campaign this week to help raise money for a new shelter.

Bricks are available in two sizes, at $75 or $150 each, and have space for up to six lines of text. A cat or dog pawprint costs $15 extra.

Construction is set to begin by May on an 8.5-acre plot at the Pleasant View Complex just north of Monroe, according to John Baumann, co-chair of the shelter's fundraising campaign. The campaign is more than two-thirds toward raising the projected construction costs of $900,000 to $1 million.

The new shelter will replace a cramped facility near 17th Street and Wisconsin 69. It has room for 66 dog runs and 175 cat kennels, compared to the current shelter's capacity for 37 dogs and 150 cats.

The humane society is taking brick orders online at bricksrus.com/order/gchs. An order form for the bricks is also included inside this week's edition of the Monroe Shopping News.

General donations for the new shelter, payable to GCHS Building Fund, can be mailed to GCHS Building Fund, 1112 7th Avenue, Monroe, WI 53566.
