MONROE - A Freeport man was sentenced last week to three years in prison for the 2014 rape of a woman in Monroe.
Equez D. Collins, 24, pleaded guilty to a Class G felony charge of third-degree sexual assault, amended from the originally filed charge of second-degree sexual assault with use of force.
At Collins' sentencing hearing Nov. 9, Judge James Beer ordered him to serve three years on extended supervision beyond his three-year prison term.
Collins must also undergo alcohol and drug treatment, comply with all sex-offender registry rules and have no contact with the victim.
On March 1, 2014, a 35-year-old woman told police Collins offered her a ride home from Sir Buk's, the nightclub at W5222 County KK where they met.
Instead of taking her home, he parked in an alley off 13th Street, grabbed her by the throat and raped her in the back of the car. She told him to stop, "but he wouldn't listen," according to police reports.
Collins was eventually apprehended in Georgia after Monroe police issued a warrant for his arrest.
Court records for Stephenson County, Illinois, show Equez has a history of domestic violence convictions, including a case as recent as 2016.
