MONROE - The public is invited to attend a free art class demonstration open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St.
The art class demonstration will provide those in attendance the opportunity to learn about upcoming adult art classes taught by local artist, Deb Meyer. Art classes are offered through the Monroe Arts Center.
During the art class demonstration, open house attendees can watch Meyer as she shows various painting techniques, provides details and answers questions about the new "Water Media Painting Class" series scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 6 through Nov. 10. The six-week class is for all levels and will include live demonstrations, hands-on instruction, along with discussion and instruction on color mixing, techniques, brush handling, composition and glazing. Water media can include acrylic, water-soluble oils and watercolor paints.
Meyer began the study of painting as an art major in the early 1970s and has enjoyed a career in the creative arts, including advertising and interior design. After raising three children she has been painting passionately and consistently since 1998 and teaches a variety of workshops at all levels.
She works predominantly in acrylic and oil and is a realist painter, taking elements of nature and exploring the abstract character of them. Her method of work involves layering multiple applications of glazes to achieve a depth and complexity in the style of the old masters. She employs contrasting texture and tones as well as rich, vibrant color to portray images of the world as she sees it.
