FREEPORT - A former Orangeville firefighter was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for arson Wednesday.

Kenneth L. Grabow, 21, Orangeville, pleaded guilty to charges of arson in January, admitting to having set five fires in the Orangeville area between April 14 and 19, 2016.

Grabow was charged in April of 2016 after eight suspicious fires occurred in the Orangeville area within two weeks. Six of the fires occurred in abandoned or empty buildings without electricity.

The fires Grabow admitted to starting occurred in three barns, a shed and an abandoned home. Grabow is believed to have started at least two of the fires using lit cigarettes.

In addition to Grabow's 4.5 years in prison, he will be required to pay restitution for the damage the fires caused. Each fire is estimated to have caused more than $10,000 in damage.
