Flooding of Sugar, Pec rivers expected

MONROE - Continued warm temperatures and rain over the weekend has led the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue flood warnings for the Sugar River near Brodhead and the Pecatonica River near Martintown.

According to the NWS, from Sunday morning until Wednesday morning, or until the warning is canceled, a flood warning is in effect for the Sugar River near Brodhead.

The flood stage for the river is 5 feet. THhe NWS predicts the water will rise above flood and continue to rise until it is about 6.8 feet. The river is expected to be below flood stage by Wednesday.

The high water will affect Avon, in Rock County.

At Martintown, where the Pecatonica River's flood stage is 13.5 feet, the NWS predicts the water will rise above the flood stage by Tuesday and slowly recede by Wednesday.

"Floodwaters will affect the Martintown Road and West River Road in the Martintown area," according to the NWS. The NWS also predicts the water will affect County MM and the West Indies Road.

Temperatures are expected to be mild for the area for the next few days, with temperatures reaching the low 40s and high 30s today and Tuesday, with a chance of snow Tuesday.

Temperatures are predicted to be in the mid-20s by the end of the week.
