BRODHEAD - Officers from the Brodhead Police Department and Green County Sheriff's Department arrested a Monroe teenager Friday after he fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident.

At about 11 p.m., Brodhead officer Kathy Jaggi attempted to stop a red Dodge driven by Coty D. Sweet, 19, Monroe in the 1400 block of First Center Avenue in Brodhead. Sweet drove the vehicle away.

Sweet then failed to stop at a stop sign, skidded through the intersection of 19th Street and County GG and struck a tree. Sweet then fled on foot from the vehicle.

The Green County Sheriff's K-9 unit was requested, and Sweet was located and taken into custody a short distance away from the scene at about 11:10 p.m.

Sweet was not injured and was wearing his seat belt.

Two passengers in the vehicle remained in the vehicle. They were not injured.

Deputies cited Sweet for second offense operating with a suspended driver's license, reckless endangerment, failure to maintain control, failure to stop at a stop sign and hit-and-run to property adjacent to a highway.

Sweet was taken into custody by the Brodhead Police Department on its charges of operating after suspension, drunken driving, blood alcohol content violation, unreasonable and imprudent speed, failure to stop at a stop sign, knowingly fleeing an officer, open intoxicants in the vehicle as a driver, failure to stop at a stop sign and reckless driving.

Sweet was jailed pending further action.
