NEW GLARUS - A man arrested Thursday in Fitchburg may be connected to at least two residential burglaries in Green County during the past several months.
The Fitchburg Police Department arrested Malachi Neilsen, 26, for numerous daytime residential burglaries in Fitchburg, as well as in Dane, Green and Sauk counties.
Green County Sheriff Randy Roderick said Neilsen may be involved with a pair of residential burglaries in Green County during which electronics, jewelry and cash were taken.
Roderick said deputies followed up on a lead that indicated some property from a February burglary of a home in the New Glarus area may be at a pawn shop in Madison. Deputies recovered property at the pawn shop from the New Glarus burglary.
A search of Neilsen's residence resulted in the recovery of jewelry and money stolen during several of the burglaries, as well as illegal drugs. Additional stolen property was recovered from area pawn shops.
Roderick said the department is continuing its investigation of the burglaries in conjunction with Fitchburg police.
Neilsen is being held in Dane County Jail on tentative charges of burglary, as well as a probation violation hold.
Neilsen was convicted of five counts of burglary after he was arrested while committing a burglary in Fitchburg in 2002. He was released from prison in September 2006, after serving a sentence related to the 2002 burglaries, as well as an escape and burglary charge in 2003.
