DARLINGTON - Danica Hay experienced a couple firsts on Jan 2.
The 21-year-old South Wayne resident had her first child at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.
Spencer Elmer Hay, born at 6:43 p.m., is the first baby born in Lafayette County in 2008. The boy was 8 pounds, 14 ounces at birth and measured 21 inches long.
Danica, who works at Culver's in Monroe, said technically, the baby was late, "but he came at his own time."
The single mother chose the baby's first name from a baby book, because "the name seemed to fit." His middle name is a family name from her father's side.
