MONROE - Arnold & O'Sheridan, Inc., a consulting engineering firm from Madison, will be on the Common Council agenda Wednesday looking for final approval to do a complete evaluation of the city's only parking ramp, located in the downtown area.
Arnold & O'Sheridan submitted a job quote of $14,600. The Board of Public Works sent its recommendation of the firm to the council on Monday.
Only four of the seven firms requested to submit quotes returned proposals, which ranged from $9,800 to $45,300, according to Engineering Supervisor Alan Gerber. Gerber said the submitting firms were first ranked according to their qualifications to do the job.
The firm is being hired to assist the city in evaluating, estimating, prioritizing and preparing plans and specifications for structural repairs as well as generating a long term maintenance plan for the parking structure. The project would include deck and wall repair, stairwell repair, stairwell window replacement, construction joint repair, drainage repairs, lighting upgrades and painting inside and out.
Gerber said the city needs to determine the feasibility of rehabilitating the structure or decide whether razing the structure and building an at-grade lot would be more economical.
The 224-stall, six-level parking structure, located at 11th Street and 15th Avenue, was built in 1966. Although only about one-third full on a daily basis, the structure is often well used during special events.
