Fire at Monroe Village Apartments displaces families

At roughly 3:45 p.m. April 4, Monroe firefighters were paged to Monroe Village Apartments in the 1000 block of 4th Avenue West for reports of a fire in a second-level apartment. 

Flames were reported and onlookers stood as large plumes of dark smoke billowed out. MFD requested help from all Green County agencies, Orfordville, Winslow and Orangeville through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. Trucks from New Glarus and South Wayne fire departments were on scene. 

Green County EMS was called to examine one of the occupants of the apartment that had started on fire. According to a press release by the Monroe Fire Department, two people were taken to Monroe Clinic by ambulance and were subsequently released. The Red Cross was providing assistance to displaced families.
