ARGYLE - A fire, possibly the result of electrical problems, caused extensive damage to the inside of an Argyle residence Monday in the 9100 block of Rat Hollow Road, according to the homeowner.
Homeowners Patrick and Rebecca McCauley said they had purchased the home as a foreclosure about two years ago and had spent about $200,000 in renovations towards the home. Rebecca McCauley said the fire began around 9 a.m. Monday morning.
She said they had no estimate into the damage but would likely know Tuesday once a fire inspector and their insurance company could assess the damage.
"We're really hoping it will be under $100,000," Rebecca McCauley said. "We had a lot of antiques in the house, which is unfortunate."
Patrick McCauley said he was at home sleeping when the fire alarm woke him up. No one was injured, as Patrick McCauley was the only one home at the time of the fire. The fire went through the first floor, smothering the room in smoke and fire and water damage. The fire appears to have started in the dining room near a fireplace, and Rebecca McCauley was told it was possibly caused by an electrical malfunction.
Argyle, Browntown, Woodford, Adams and Blanchardville fire departments responded to the scene.
Rebecca McCauley expressed gratitude to the local fire departments and their efforts to put out the blaze. She also pointed out one Argyle firefighter, Dave Soper, and his work throughout the day.
"The fire departments were great - and Dave - Dave stuck around all day just to make sure everything was OK," she said.
